Outreach Class Delivered at “Columbus Egg Akita de Science” (Event Dats: 31 Jul 2026)

On July 31, 2026, we participated in “Columbus Egg Akita de Science,” held at Omagari Library, and delivered an outreach class entitled “Can Electricity Be Generated by the Wind Over the Sea?” A total of 10 participants, including seven elementary school students, attended the session.

During the class, we explained how the electricity we use in our daily lives is generated, as well as the mechanism of global warming and the importance of renewable energy. Through quizzes and interactive exchanges, we introduced the features and mechanism of wind power generation, as well as the reasons why offshore wind power is attracting attention, in a way that helped participants feel familiar with the topic.

We also conducted a hands-on electricity generation activity using hand-crank generators. The participating children experienced the mechanism of power generation by turning the generators and producing electricity themselves, and they enjoyed learning while deepening their understanding of different power generation methods and the role of wind power.

In addition, during the class, we introduced the offshore wind power project currently being prepared for construction off the coast of Oga, Katagami, and Akita. Participants learned about the overall project, the size of offshore wind turbines, and the process from construction through operation and maintenance, helping them deepen their understanding of the renewable energy project being advanced in the region.

Through this outreach activity, we were pleased to provide an opportunity for local children and other community members to deepen their understanding of offshore wind power generation and renewable energy.
